I hooked an MBOX 1 up to my computer (AMD Sempron 2800+ 1.60 GHZ, 1 Gig RAM, 40 Gig main, 250 Gig SATA Audio, 160 Gig external) It works but my input levels are very low. I have to turn the gain all the way up to get any signal at all. I've tried both inputs with three different mics (condensor, dynamic, tube condensor)3 different sets of XLR mic cables, I've tried Phantom power on and off for all three, and it always the same result. I've been playing with this for three days now and nothing changes. Does anyone know what I'm doing wrong? - Thanks Daniel

Don't get offended here, but make sure your input is selected as 'mic' (the button and the leds on the front panel). Also are you aware that the combo-connectors' wiring is such that the XLR accepts only mic level input signal and the TRS-jack line and instrument signal. Hope this helps. Ville
Yes, it was set for mic input. So what you are telling me is that I need to get a pre-amp? then hook the mics through that and then hook the pre-amp up to the MBOX? Daniel[*]AMD Sempron 2800+ 1.60 Ghz, 1 Gig Ram, 40 gig main, 250 Gig Sata Audio, 160 Gig external
I have the same problem on my MBox1, not enough gain on the mic inputs. I've checked the cables, mics, made sure MBox input is selected on mic, not enough gain. (I use ribbon mics Beyer M500 which have low putput). I use my Behringer Eurorack 602A as my preamps, then line out from Eurorack 602A to line in on MBox1. (not everyones' favorite, but it works). I posed a question at this thread. BAJ
you want a pre with at least 60db of gain for most passive ribbon mics, your mic documentation should tell you that. Tellingthem check your XLR cables, if one conductor is faulty you can get a very low signal
