S80 Alarm Fault

One gentleman raised this topic a year ago but seemed not to have had any answers. Some months ago when the car has been parked in the garage the alarm has sounded, on several occasions, for no reason. Recently, just before going for a service, it happened so often that the battery was flattened - resulting in a call to GreenFlag. It was mentioned to the dealer who had a "fiddle" with it during the servicing. One week on, the alarm sounded again but behaved itself after I used the remote. Then, last night, it went off four times - the last just as I was closing the garage door after the third blast! In pure desperation, & so the neighbours would not be woken from their slumbers, the battery was disconnected. However, I am now scared to use the car to go anywhere!!! Any brilliant thoughts, please?

You didn`t say the model year of your car , in early model year 01 in the U S they had a problem with the remotes causing unwanted alarm , unlocked trunk , doors etc , this was caused by the rubber boot inside the remote that was to tight causing pressure on the internal buttons , there was a repair kit for that year car. It is also possible that the remote maybe bad , easy way is to remove the remotes batterys and see if the problem goes away. Mister T.

Many thanks for the suggestion; all the doors & the trunk work perfectly - it is just the alarm. When it was being serviced, I did ask the dealer to change the battery in the remote because it seemed to have to be ever closer to the car for it to work - & it was assumed that they would check everything in it (I have come across one appalling Volvo dealer in the twenty five years of owning these vehicles, but this one is usually very good: it is just a hassle to go 70 miles to them with a mystery ailment which they are finding just as puzzling!). Very forgetful, I did forget to say that it was a 1998 2.9 litre T6 model!

The next thing to determine is whether the car is equipt with a tilt sensor and motion sensor , there is no way to read of causes for involuntary alarm faults on this year car , it has to be done the hard way by disconnecting the sensors 1 at a time , if the problem remains after doing this I would suspect the drivers door lock is the problem . I am very grateful, Mr. T., for your guidance; it is equipped with the tilt & motion sensors. As soon as there are a few hours to spare, I will have a forage into the inner workings - I suspect it will be a long job....no workshop manuals available in the U. K. (ah, the good old days when in the U. S. A. & could buy a Chilton's book) for this car so will have to find out the hard way where those sensors are located! Didn't have such problems with my earlier Jaguars & Volvos - I could even reach into the engine compartment to service the beasts, which is impossible with the T6!!!
