122s

MessageAuthor

I have met a chap who said he has a 122S with twin SU's in storage. He said the car was imported from Africa, (Zimbabwe he thinks) about 4 years ago, and is right hand drive. He thinks it's a '68 and is straight and solid, runs well and may still have some tax and test left on it. I could be tempted but know nothing of these cars. What should I look for? What are the weak/problem areas? Thanks in advance. Edited to add that he said it could do with a respray as the paint is a bit tired.

RE: 122s

as far as rust, inside bottoms of the doors, bottom of the front wings where they join the small pressed panel, inside the wheel arches, unde the bonnet in the back corners, and check for cracks in there too, lower doorskins, floor. beyond that its all pretty simple things, if its been driven regularly pull the choke right out and it should start quickly with a little jab of the gas pedal, generally you can push the choke back in a bit after its started. firm brake pedal, a bit of play in the steering seems standard, if you push the side of the car to get it rocking it should settle back down very quickly or the shocks are stuffed, just standard stuff really. have you ever driven a 122S or anything of similar age before?

Never driven a 122 but drove a E (68?) reg transit pick up many moons ago. That had about 3-4 inches of play in the steering.
